The house was really nicely designed, built and the stylings were very different than we see in North America. Tile everywhere, which they occasionally cover with hardwood. Concrete walls are the norm, but they are often covered with different paneling.
Given the weather here it is a very different style of building. They build things to stand up to high winds and massive amounts of rain - which happens for a good 4 months out of every year. It is almost always hot so things aren't really insulated in the way we do - and they tend to have air conditioners in each room. Electricity is very expensive here - and with no insulation and small individual air conditioners the price of staying cool is crazy high. Probably 5x what you pay in Toronto.
And an interesting little garage - most are just left uncovered.
